We focus on learning through child-directed play experiences and curriculum time. We believe a balance of play and preschool enhances growth and development in all areas: physically, socially, emotionally, creatively and intellectually. This is achieved in a safe and loving faith-based environment with caregivers who are dedicated to enriching children’s lives.

At Susanna Wesley Day School, we believe that faith begins with simple experiences of love, kindness, gratitude, prayer, and learning about God’s love for us. Throughout the day, children are gently introduced to age-appropriate Christian teachings and values in ways that are meaningful and engaging for their age.

Children experience prayer, Bible stories, songs, worship, and conversations that help them begin to understand who God is and how we can show His love to others. Our youngest students are encouraged to ask questions, participate, and experience faith as a natural and joyful part of their day.

As part of the SWDS experience, children are also introduced to the chapel setting through age-appropriate experiences overseen by the Tomball Methodist Church Children’s Ministry. These opportunities allow children to become familiar with worship and the church community in a welcoming, comfortable environment.

Our hope is that every child will begin to build a foundation of faith, compassion, kindness, and love that grows with them throughout their childhood.

Growing in Grace- Nurturing Little Learners

For more than 40 years, Susanna Wesley Day School has thoughtfully developed and refined our Growing in Grace curriculum through experience, observation, and intentional practice. Designed specifically for our youngest learners, Growing in Grace nurtures the whole child, supporting their growth academically, socially, emotionally, independently, and spiritually.

Through age-appropriate, hands-on experiences, children are encouraged to explore, discover, create, and learn at their own pace. Our classrooms provide opportunities for purposeful play, sensory exploration, art, music, movement, stories, games, and imaginative play. These experiences help children build confidence, develop independence, strengthen relationships, and make meaningful discoveries about the world around them.

Growing in Grace has been shaped by more than four decades of early childhood experience and continues to grow alongside the children we serve. We thoughtfully consider the unique developmental needs of infants, toddlers, and young preschoolers, creating an environment where children feel safe, loved, supported, and encouraged to explore.

At SWDS, we believe children learn best when they are known, loved, and encouraged to grow. Growing in Grace provides a strong foundation for each child’s early years—helping them develop not only the skills they need for school, but the confidence and character they need for life.

Pre-K Curriculum

Growing in Grace – Preparing Children for Their Next Big Adventure

Our Pre-K curriculum is designed to build upon the skills children have developed throughout their early years while preparing them for the exciting transition to kindergarten. At this stage, children are ready to ask more questions, take on new challenges, express their ideas, and become increasingly confident in their abilities.

Learning in Pre-K is active, purposeful, and engaging. Through teacher-guided instruction, hands-on activities, meaningful play, and classroom experiences, students explore early literacy, writing, mathematics, science, social studies, and other foundational skills. Children are encouraged to think creatively, solve problems, communicate their ideas, and make connections between what they are learning and the world around them.

We place a strong emphasis on independence and school readiness, helping children practice following directions, working cooperatively, managing emotions, caring for their belongings, completing tasks, and developing the confidence to try new things. Our goal is not simply to teach children what they need to know, but to help them become enthusiastic, capable, and confident learners.

As children prepare to leave SWDS and take their next step into elementary school, we want them to carry with them a love of learning, a growing sense of responsibility, and the confidence to say, “I can do this!”
